A few months ago, I casually asked Isaac what he would like for a cake for his next birthday. And he said he wanted a pig cake. A pig cake? Like with a pig on it? Actually, a cake that is a pig. Oh! So we looked at a few online until we found something similar to his vision. I'd never made a cake like that before, but the monochromatic fondant (less work) did appeal to me. What about colors? He said he liked neon. Okay, pig cake with neon decorations. Got it.
I feel bad that we had to cancel the venue party for his birthday two years in a row, and that the trampoline park is permanently closed. We just got his favorite pizza and cake flavor, made some cotton candy with our little machine, and had glow in the dark balloons. It was just us, but we called the grandparents. They got him the gaming keyboard he's been wanting that lights up in different colors as well as little blacklights and a green cape. He was pretty darn happy!
Naomi drew him a very cute picture, a mash-up of two of his favorite things, martial arts and red pandas. It just dawned on me now it was a karate red panda, a play on Kung Fu Panda. He loves her drawings so much. I got him a card that has a cat eating a pizza in outer space, and he put that up in his room.
Without any place to go, I just ended up taking him hiking at the same Stanford trail I'd taken Lucas recently. That one is easy to distance, not too long, and doesn't have poison oak. Isaac talks the entire time, whereas Lucas doesn't like to talk at all. It's much more enjoyable for me to take them separately than all together. Isaac is hands down the most interesting person I've ever gone hiking with.
