April 2026 (Naomi's birthday, Michael, dinner dates, Frenchie puppies, Artemis launch)

Naomi had her big milestone birthday in April, and we got to make up for our Hello Kitty Cafe celebration for my birthday by celebrating hers. Her friend joined us, and then they went to her celebration at the escape room where her friend works. Naomi's college friends also threw her a party where everyone dressed up as her favorite things. I thought that was such a cute idea. I usually don't post her pictures anymore, but I'll include some here from her birthday. And then she also celebrated at home, and I got her a medley of different cupcakes. Manny and I also took her to a wagyu sukiyaki house.

I also got to do my make-up birthday yoga with puppies event. I saw an ad for it, and I got so excited at the idea of with golden retriever puppies. The company claimed that runs the puppy yoga says that their puppies are not from puppy mills and are adoptable puppies. I ended up signing up for corgi puppies, which was cancelled at the last minute, so they called up a Frenchie breeder and we get Frenchie puppies. On the one hand, it felt healing to see little Frenchies and remember our sweet Nacho. On the other hand, I don't like the way Frenchies are bred. I wasn't sure anymore where these puppies were coming from, so I decided I wouldn't sign up for one again, maybe unless they are rescue puppies.

Manny went to a Warriors/Kings game with Chris the same day. His car battery died on the way home, but thankfully we have AAA. We went out to a ramen place owned by a Mexican-American family, and the portions were huge. We also went to an Irish restaurant the following week. We go out to dinner more often these days.

Also in April, we took Lucas to see Michael. Michael Jackson's nephew really embodied his uncle, and it felt more like a concert than movie sometimes. After doing some research, I am even less convinced the charges against Jackson were valid, but I don't truly know. At least for the years covered in the movie, from his unconventional childhood to the start of the Bad tour, it was a time of nostalgia for Manny and me. And while I liked the Jackson 5, they were before my time, so likewise Lucas can appreciate Jackson's performances, but the pandemonium was also before his time.

We played soccer in April for Lucas's sport class. I coached again and played goalie as well when we were short a player. My shoulder really bothered me so I couldn't really throw it in well. Another mom also had a frozen shoulder, and she convinced me to inquire about physical therapy.

Last but not least, I watched the Artemis II launch online. They were the first crew to do a flyby of the moon. For some reason I thought we'd cut back on the NASA launches, so it was special to witness. Victor Glover, a Christian navy captain and astronaut from the crew, talked about his faith in interviews, how he did not see science and his faith conflicting. I feel the same way. We make it conflict depending on perspective and motivation.

We sat around a huge wooden counter with other patrons.

We have liftoff!

Here for the countdown, by myself. I tried getting my kids into space stuff, but it just didn't take off (pun intended).

January (Food and More Food, Friends, Lunar New Year, and Planetary Alignment)

January seemed like a food tour month! We ate out a lot, sometimes with each other, sometimes with others. I guess it seemed a good time after Christmas to do that. Manny had a very belated birthday lunch with K while I had an early birthday dinner with O. I also went to visit my former coworker whom I haven't seen in 13 or 14 years. She just had twins. Lucas's sports class did physical fitness test training in January. The "Parade of Planets" also happened in January throughout the month where several of the planets appeared to line up across the sky. While there was this appearance of order, I felt my own self starting to shed appearances and coming into an acceptance of the what I'd been observing in the world and people around me. Maybe it was politics, maybe the past colliding with the present, maybe perimenopause.😅 I'm human and draw erroneous conclusions all the time, but I'm in a sort of contemplative and reflective period in my life again. Thank God His Word, and His love, are always the same and true. I've been resting and trusting in that (though I get distracted or self-centered sometimes). I think it's Paul Tripp who says you're a believer all the time but an atheist some of the time. It means once we're children of God we will always be no matter what, but sometimes we forget we're His children and act like we are in control of everything and have everything under control. I've been thinking a lot about the book of James and what it means to have faith and the right worldview. I will say I think that marrying faith and politics is dangerous, whether you're on the left or right. Things start getting murky and priorities flip, or at least that is what I've seen.

Manny out for pizza with K. K. sent me this photo. I don't usually have photos of Manny's outings with other people to post.

Visiting with E. and her twin boy and girl. Also saw her mom, who actually remembered me from 20 years ago.

Fancy tea at Orchard City Kitchen and a crepe cake (in the background)

We came here for my 40th birthday (with our husbands) and now my 49th.

OCK always has new menu items for us to try

I love this Van Gogh umbrella my friend A. got me for Christmas.

Time to train--pushups, curlups, stretch tests, and a mile run

Simple foods for Lunar New Yera, half homemade, half store-bought

Out for Korean tofu with church friends

Manny and I having spicy noodle soup. He spotted Jay and Sharon, famous YouTubers with their kids. (I won't post their pic here, but Sharon is wearing white in the corner in the background).

New Year's gift fromt he neighbor, a jar in the shape of an orange with yummy orange gummy candies

M took me out for a Mediterranean meal. Some stuffed dates and mint tea.

Speaking of stuffed dates, Manny and I took Naomi out for Korean food after helping her move back.

I am trying to post less and less of Naomi on here.

Snoopy!

More food. This was a Taiwanese hot pot and spicy dish place I think called Home Eats.

Japanese AYCE sushi buffet at Sake Bomb. They actually don't do this anymore.

Manny wanted to try sashimi for the first time. Was a big surprise to me, since he never really eats sushi and definitely not the raw stuff. No little bites for him--he wanted the whole experience. We even had raw octopus and fish cheeks. He decided to big or go home, I guess!

Where the planets were on my app

Could sort of see the moon and the planetes, though I couldn't capture it well on my phone.

At Meet Fresh with A. after her volunteer work meeting

Out with Rebeka for lunch at Leichi

Housemade tofu was fantastic
